    Different Horticulture Jobs

    One of the largest, leading industries in the United States is agriculture and horticulture is its fastest rising segment. Because of this, there are a lot of diverse horticulture jobs that are being offered continually every year.

    Horticulture basically deals with design, production, maintenance and marketing of different plants, fruits, vegetables, tress, shrubs and vines. Several horticulture jobs concentrate on one phase of this sector like planning, designing and landscaping (lawn and garden maintenance). There are also a lot of horticulture jobs offered to educated and skilled worker in various environments like farms, plant growth centers, nurseries and golf courses.

    Also popular among horticulture jobs is designing landscapes. The job of a landscape designer is to develop a piece of land to make it functional and aesthetically pleasing whether it is a simple front lawn, a public park or a business area. A landscape designer also knows what types of trees and ground cover to use that will be compatible with a particular climate. Another element of landscape design is the construction of water fountains, walls and walkways.

    Being a florist is also included in the list of horticulture jobs but in this one you have the option to open your own flower shop. Being a florist means that you should be creative and artistic in mixing the color and the texture of the flowers. You will arrange flowers or decorate venues with flowers setup for special occasions.

    Maintenance personnel jobs are among the most common horticulture jobs. They can include lawn keeping, ground maintenance and tree cutting. Maintenance personnel should also have a good background in pest control, soil chemistry and knowledge in varieties of plants for a lush and healthy lawn. They should also know how to handle different equipment like lawn mowers, tree clippers and pruning sheers. A maintenance expert also has the potential to put up his own business or work for a maintenance company.

    As a horticulturist, working in a plant nursery or greenhouse are other job options. While working in a greenhouse, you can study and breed flowers that can stand firm against drought or grow different varieties of vegetable sprouts and repot them for marketing. In a nursery you can work as a consultant for plant care as well as retailing.

    A horticulturist also knows how to handle pests in plants. Therefore, you can work as a specialist in pest control. You can work for regulatory groups, agricultural dealers, processing companies, large farms or pesticides manufacturers.
    Being a horticulturist is challenging and at the same time very rewarding. If you love handling different plants then consider horticulture as your career path. There are loads of horticulture jobs that you can find in your area or you can visit an online job service.
